AutoMarks V0.2
The Location bar currently uses data in your history to perform auto-complete of urls as you type them in. If you dont have much history, the autocomplete feature starves and provides you little or no results. This extension allows you to add your bookmarks so they are included in the Autocomplete search.
How to use:
In Firefox:
In the Bookmarks menu, select the Copy bookmarks to Autocomplete.
It will prompt you to confirm, then proceed with the transfer.
In Mozilla:
In the Tools menu, select the Copy bookmarks to Autocomplete.
It will prompt you to confirm, then proceed with the transfer.
Once your bookmarks are transferred, just use the location bar as usual.
What's new: It has been updated to work with Firefox 1.5+
Has not been tested with new versions of mozilla if any issues please leve a comment here and I'll look into it.
Install URL: Install AutoMarks 0.2
Jul 2008 NOTE: AutoMarks is DEAD. Firefox 3.0 now does this out of the box.(We recommend you upgrade to Firefox 3.0)

Subfolders
This what i figured out too! (Present to reading Edke's post.) The idea of the extention is great, but when it does not copy the bookmarks inside subfolders it is totally useless for me!
Automarks and OSX
RB:
I use FF 1.5 on mac os x (10.3.9). It works fine here but for some reason, FF 1.5 processes the importing MUCH MUCH MUCH slower than FF 1.0.7 did.
I found that automarks runs a little quicker if you have your history empty or contain very little.
I hope the new version of firefox works better. I will test AutoMarks on it and hope to have the speed it used to.
If I find time, I will try to investigate this further, and make changes.

with OS X
AutoMarks 0.2 does not appear to function at all. I have many bookmarks stored in multiple levels of folders. When I typed in URLs of known web sites that had not previously been typed in a clean installation of FX 1.5 (with bookmarks transferred) I had to type the entire URL. Also, when I right click on AutoMarks in the list of installed Extensions the "Preferences" is greyed out and can not be accessed. As I was doing a fresh installation (after problems with extensions conflicts) I had only All-In-One Sidebar, AutoMarks, and the two default extensions, DOM Inspector and Talkback installed.
This is potentially a very handy extension if it will work with the OS X version of Firefox.
Thanks!
AutoMarks won't work
I tried letting automarks do its thing in Firefox for over a half an hour. Firefox was totally locked up with the spinning beach ball of death.
I have several hundred bookmarks in multiple level folders.
I am running the following extensions
autocopy
Tabbrowser Preferences
Print Preview
Download Manager Tweak
Autofill
Fastfox
AutoMarks
Firefox 1.5 takes longer

AutoMarks
I had used automarks in previous Firefox versions for the Mac.
It worked great and I loved it.
I downloaded the new version for firefox 1.5.
Every time I use it, it hangs the application with the spinning beach ball of death. I have to force quite firefox.
I am running about 7 other extension.
Could there be a conflict ?
subfolders ?
Hello.
I tested it and seems like it copies only bookmarks placed directly in main root of bookmars. I have an complex structure of bookmarks, I cleared all my history to see what is copied, I placed 2 bookmarks in root directory, rest is stored in subfolders. After copying bookmarks with AutoMarks, only those 2 in root dir were copied. That's why people here may have problems reporting that nothing has been copied ...
problem...
To be clear: I copy the bookmarks, but nothing happens...
Thanks + regards,
Fritz
still have the problem
Hello Amanuel,
that's the problem. I have no bookmarks in my history. Perhaps that's because I have installed firefox not in the standard volume (programs ....)?

fritz - problem
fritz,
If you have your browsing history is set to 30 days, you only need to copy bookmarks to autocomplete once every 30 days.
Check your history to see if your bookmarks are copied properly. They should all be in there.
Note with a history database that big, automarks will run for a long time. (several minutes perhaps)

Amanuel
